Sia's "This is Acting" is the Highest Charting Album by a Veteran Artist; Flaming Lips Can't Get Higher Than 62

by VVN Music

While much of the rest of the world has been reveling in new releases, the United States is knee deep in older albums on the charts.

This week's top album by a veteran artists goes to Sia and This is Acting. I hear you say, "Sia? She's a new artist!" Well, actually, no. Sia Furler released her first album, OnlySee (1997), in Australia where it only sold 1,200 copies.

It wasn't until 2008 and her fourth album that she really started to make a splash internationally with Some People Have Real Problems which had its highest peak in America at number 26.

The big breakthrough came in 2009 when music Sia wrote were included on Christina Aguilera's album Bionic and Bound to You, from the movie Burlesque, was nominated for an Oscar. Five years later, she was finally riding high on the charts with Chandelier from the album 1000 Forms of Fear.

Her latest, This is Acting, peaked at number 4 a year ago and has been selling ever since, sitting at number 27 this week.

Last week's top seller from a veteran, 11 Short Stories of Pain & Glory by the Dropkick Murphys dropped from 8 to 140 in its second week while, on the other end of the scale, Keith Urban's Ripcord sits at 34, thirty-seven weeks after its release.

The only new album by a veteran artist for the week goes to the Flaming Lips whose Oczy Mlody opens at 62. It's another drop for the band after their 2013 album The Terror went to 21 and 2014's With a Little Help From My Fwends peaked at 58.
