Vintage Audio: Elvis Presley's Last Performance on "The Louisiana Hayride" (1956)

by VVN Music

Between October 16, 1954 and December 15, 1956, Elvis Presley made seven appearances on The Louisiana Hayride radio program.

Over the course of those seven shows, Presley developed from a young kid who was just getting a taste of the limelight to a full fledged star performing his hits in front of an audience of screaming girls.

For his first appearance on October 16, 1954, he performed two of his Sun Records sides, That's All Tight and Blue Moon of Kentucky. As a matter of fact, through his sixth show on August 20, 1955, it was mainly the Sun tracks along with covers of songs like Tweedle Dee and Maybellene.

Then, after over a year away, he returned for one last appearance on this date sixty years ago. On this occasion, they let him perform ten of his best known songs:
  • Heartbreak Hotel
  • Long Tall Sally
  • I Was the One
  • Love Me Tender
  • Don't Be Cruel
  • Love Me
  • I Got a Woman
  • When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold Again
  • Paralyzed
  • Hound Dog
Here are audio recordings (we had to set the "Vintage Video" label to the side for this one time) from that night:
