Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Go Big With 40th Anniversary Tour

by VVN Music

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers reached their 40th anniversary in 2016 but are waiting until next year to tour in celebration.

The band actually formed in December 1975 but didn't release their first, self-titled, album until November 1976 so, with a tour starting this coming April, they're not THAT far off of forty years since the release of their debut.

Amazingly, the majority of the band is still together. Mike Campbell and Benmont Trench have been there since day one and bassist Ron Blair was an original member but left for twenty years before rejoining in 2002. Only rhythm guitarist Scott Thurston and drummer Steve Ferrone were not originally in the band. Thurston was a straight out addition in 1991 while Ferrone replaced original drummer Stan Lynch in 1994.

Joining the band on select dates are Joe Walsh and Chris Stapleton.

Highway Companion Club Members can buy tickets starting December 14 at 10 AM with general sales for all shows except Queens beginning December 16. The Queens show goes on sale on January 14.

Additional shows, including west coast dates, are expected at some point in the future.
