Bruce Springsteen Debuts at 5 in U.S.; Kansas Has Highest Chart Spot in 30 Years

by VVN Music

Bruce Springsteen debuts at number 5 this week on the Billboard 200 with Chapter & Verse, his collection of music from the earliest days of his career up to today. Tied in with his new autobiography, Born to Run, the album is highest charting compilation from Bruce since his Greatest Hits went to number 1 in 1985.

Chapter & Verse is also at the top of the Tastemaker Rock Albums charts while Greatest Hits has returned to the Albums chart at 178.

Crowder debuts at 12 with American Prodigal, David Crowder's third top twelve debut out of three solo releases. His 2014 solo debut, Neon Steeple, went to number 9 while the 2015 EP Neon Porch Extravaganza hit 11 last year. Crowder had also hit those heights twice with the David Crowder Band with 2009's Church Music which peaked at 11 and 2012's Give Us Rest which went to number 2 in 2012.

Kansas has their highest charting album in thirty years as The Prelude Implicit opens at 41. In 1986, their string of hit albums ended when Power peaked at 35. Since then they have only charted once with 1988's In the Spirit of Things (#114) while three albums, Freaks of Nature (1995), Always Never the Same (1998) and Somewhere to Elsewhere (2000), did not chart.

The fourth and final debut by a veteran artist for the week goes to Dwight Yoakam whose Swimmin' Pools, Movie Stars... starts at 62. That is a very big drop off from his last two albums, 2012's Three Pears and 2015's Second Hand Heart which both peaked at 18.

Swimmin' Pools, Movie Stars... is at the number 1 spot on the Bluegrass Albums chart.

In singles, Daft Punk is back for the first time in three years, this time in support of The Weeknd on the song Starboy. The record in number 3 on the Hot 100 and is at the top of the R&B/Hip Hop Songs, R&B/Hip Hop Digital Song Sales, R&B/Hip Hop Streaming Songs, R&B Songs and R&B Streaming Songs charts.
