In another great week on the U.K. Albums chart, veteran artists have taken for of the top ten positions.
Debuting at number 2 is the The Nation's Favourite Carpenters Songs, a new twenty song compilation with songs voted on by the British public. Results, which include nineteen of their hits and the album cut Jambalaya (On the Bayou), will also be presented on an upcoming ITV special.
The new album is also the top seller on the Physical Albums chart.
Falling from 1 to 4 is the new Barbra Streisand album Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway while moving 6 to 9 is the 32-year-old album Legend by Bob Marley & the Wailers.
At 7 is the premier of Foreverland by the Irish band The Divine Comedy. That is the highest position ever achieved for the band out of their twelve studio albums with the previous best being Fin de Siecle (1998 / #9). In all, eight of those twelve albums made the top 100. A compilation album, A Secret History ... The Best of The Divine Comedy did make number 3 in 1999.
Foreverland is also at the top of the Independent Albums chart.
The late Freddie Mercury premiers at 31 with the compilation Messenger of the Gods: The Singles Collection which contains a CD of thirteen singles and a disc of twelve b-sides released by the iconic singer outside of his work with Queen. The album was also released on 13-color vinyl 45's.
The Wedding Present debuts at 35 with Going, Going... It is the veteran bands highest chart position since 1991's Seamonsters (#13) and the third highest charting album in their career out of nine studio releases. Three compilations from between 1989 and 1993 also placed higher on the Albums chart.
A new live album from King Crimson's 2015 tour, Radical Action to Unseat the Hold of Monkey Mind, opens at 71. Amazingly, this is only the twelfth time the band has made the British Albums chart and the first since 1995's Thrak.
Overall, the British country band Ward Thomas have the number 1 album in the U.K. with Cartwheels followed by the Carpenters, Trick by Jamie T, Streisand and Growing Over Life by Wretch 32.
Over on the Country Artists Albums chart, Dolly Parton has returned to number 1 with Pure & Simple.
On the Singles chart, the Chainsmokers Featuring Halsey are once again at number 1 with Closer followed by Let Me Love You by DJ Snake Featuring Justin Bieber, Cold Water by Major Lazer with Justin Bieber and M0, Dancing on My Own by Calum Scott and Heathens by twenty one pilots.
On the Rock & Metal Singles chart, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are at number 1 for a third week with Can't Stop.
Finally, on the Soundtrack albums chart, it's once again Guardians of the Galaxies: Awesome Mix, Vol. 1 which has now been out 111 weeks.
