Blink-182 Moves Back Up to 12, New Grateful Dead Live Album Debuts at 26

by VVN Music

It is very, very unusual for an album by a veteran rock artist to show any sign of increasing or having steady sales week-to-week when first released. Most start high and plummet in their second week.

Perfect examples occurred this week as Steven Tyler's new country album drops 19 to 112 in its second week and Jeff Beck's Loud Hailer goes 41 to 150.

There are, however, two new albums by veteran rockers that went up this week. Blink-182's California, which has now been out for three weeks, moves 13 to 12 while the Red Hot Chili Pepper's The Getaway, which is in its sixth week of release, goes 43 to 38.

On the debut front, the Grateful Dead score big with Dave's Picks, Volume 19: Honolulu Civic Center Auditorium, Honolulu, HI - 1/23/70. These live archive releases have been a bit inconsistent over the past year or so with some debuting under 100 while others have made the top 20.  For Volume 19, the start is a fairly impressive number 26.

At 34 is the premier of Keith Sweat's Dress to Impress. The album eeks out a slightly better start then his last album, Til the Morning (2011 / #38) but is still the second lowest charting album of the twelve he has released since his 1987 debut.

Gospel great Hezekiah Walker opens at 88 with "Better" Azusa: The Next Generation 2. It marks the first time in his career that he has made the Billboard 200.

While his father Bob Marley continues to ride high on the charts with Legend, Stephen Marley premiers at 129 with Revelation Part II: The Fruit of Life. Like Walker, this is his first tip to the overall Billboard 200.
