When you follow your tenure in the biggest group of all time with an almost as successful solo career, it makes sense that you would be the biggest Album artist of all-time in the U.K.
Thursday marked the 60th anniversary of the publishing of the first album chart in Britain by the Official Music Company. They have been celebrating over the last few weeks with all-time tallies based on that half-century-plus history and, today, announced the biggest album artists.
Paul McCartney tops the list with 22 number 1 albums (15 with the Beatles, two with Wings, one as Paul & Linda McCartney and four solo sets) but he's not the only one of the former Fab Four to make the list. The four Beatles have ended up as the top four of all time with their solo career determining the order. Of course, all four have the 15 number 1's as a group with John Lennon coming in second counting three solo chart toppers, George Harrison is third with 2 solo number ones and Ringo Starr is tied for fourth with the 15 Beatles hits.
Tied with Ringo is Robbie Williams who has also had fifteen number ones, four with Take That and eleven solo.
The rest of the top ten is filled out by Elvis Presley, Madonna, Phil Collins and David Bowie.
