The Monkees Debut at 14 on the Billboard 200, Their Highest Charting Album Since 1968; Other Veterans Take Big Falls

by VVN Music

The Monkees are officially back and riding high on the charts.

Their new album Good Times!, which includes both archived tracks and newly recorded songs with all four members, debuts this week at 14 on the Billboard 200. That makes it the highest charting album for the band since 1968's The Birds, The Bees & The Monkees.

To put this in perspective, here is the complete Billboard 200 chart history for the group, in chronological order, including compilations with top tens in red and albums that peaked at 11 through 20 in blue:
  • The Monkees (1966 / #1)
  • More of the Monkees (1967 / #1)
  • Headquarters (1967 / #1)
  • Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones, Ltd. (1967 / #1)
  • The Birds, The Bees and the Monkees (1968 / #3)
  • Head (1968 / #45)
  • Instant Replay (1969 / #32)
  • Greatest Hits (1969 / #89)
  • The Monkees Present (1969 / #100)
  • Changes (1970 / #152)
  • The Monkees Greatest Hits (1976 / #58)
  • Then & Now...The Best of the Monkees (1986 / #21)
  • Pool It! (1987 / #72)
  • The Best of the Monkees (2003 / #20)
  • Good Times! (2016 / #14)
Good Times! also tops the Billboard Tastemakers chart.

Last weeks three big debuts have all taken big drops from the top ten. Eric Clapton's I Still Do went 6 to 29, Bob Dylan's Fallen Angels fell 7 to 82 and Mudcrutch's 2 plummeted 10 to 89.

The thrash metal band Death Angel debut at 98 with The Evil Divide. Their eighth studio album in their 29 year career, it falls short of their career high, 2013's The Dream Calls For Blood, which went to 73.

At 152 is the premier of Everything's Beautiful by Miles Davis & Robert Glasper. Glasper reimagined Davis' music, using his tracks and mixing in performances by such artists as Erykah Badu, Laura Mvula, John Scofield, Ledisi and Stevie Wonder.
