  • 1948 - Columbia Records began the mass producing of 33-1/3 LP records.
  • 1967 - The Jimi Hendrix Experience play their first show at the Monterey Pop Festival. Hendrix famously lights his guitar on fire to close the show.
  • 1968 - An adaptations of John Lennon's In His Own Write premiers at London's National Theatre. 
  • 1974 - At a Rare Earth concert, drummer Peter Hoorelbeke was arrested for throwing his drumsticks into the crowd.
  • 1975 - Elvis Presley reportedly had a face lift.
  • 1977 - Johnny Rotten and Paul Cook of the Sex Pistols were beaten and stabbed outside a London pub.
  • 1983 - The band Yello from Switzerland released the first 3D picture disc (glasses included).
  • 1984 - Judas Priest are banned for life from playing Madison Square Garden after fans rip out cushions and seats. The group pays for the damages. 
  • 1984 - Rhinestone with Dolly Parton and Sylvester Stallone premiers in Nashville. 
  • 1988 - Depeche Mode play the last night of their world tour at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA with 80,000 in attendance.
  • 1993 - Herb Alpert and Jerry Ross announced they were leaving A&M Records.
  • 1995 - The Notorious B.I.G. was arrested on robbery and aggravated assault. 
  • 1998 - David Cassidy pioneered new record marketing by selling his new album on QVC.
  • 2000 - Rapper Nate Dogg was arrested on charges of kidnapping, assault and setting a car on fire. None of the charges stuck.
  • 2003 - Simon Fuller became the first manager since Brian Epstein to represent the artists with the top three singles in the U.S. (Clay Aiken, Ruben Studdard, American Idol Final 10).
  • 2004 - Ray Charles funeral held at First AME Church, Los Angles, CA. Performing were Stevie Wonder, Willie Nelson and B.B. King.
  • 2007 - Johnny Rodriguez was arrested for drug possession west of Oklahoma City. 
  • 2008 - A Los Angeles hotel sued Phil Spector for $100,000 in outstanding bills.
  • 2010 - The lyrics for the song A Day in the Life, handwritten by John Lennon, sold at auction for $1.2 million.
  • 2011 - Tim McGraw stopped a performance in George, WA to personally eject a male fan who was abusing a female.
