ABC's "The Lexicon of Love II" is the Band's Highest Charting Album Since 1982 in Britain

by VVN Music

Like the Monkees in the United States, Britain also has a veteran act making chart news years after their last major success.

In the U.K., it's the group ABC whose The Lexicon of Love II debuts this week at number 5. For ABC, it is the highest charting album since their debut, the original The Lexicon of Love, went to number 1 in 1982.

This is the band's ninth studio recording while only the fourth to make the top twenty:

  • The Lexicon of Love (1982 / #1)
  • Beauty Stab (1983 / #12)
  • Alphabet City (1987 / #7)
  • The Lexicon of Love II (2016 / #5)
A compilation album, Absolutely, reached number 7 in 1990.

The only other new release by a veteran artist to chart this week is Miles Davis & Robert Glasper's Everything's Beautiful, which starts at 94.

Of last week's three top ten albums by veteran artists, The Very Best of Prince took the smallest fall, going 7 to 12. The new Richard Ashcroft album, These People, fell 3 to 14 while Bob Dylan's Fallen Angels lived up to its name, dropping from 5 to 47.
