Radiohead Drops 1 to 4 in Britain; Billy Ocean Stays in Top Ten For Third Week

by VVN Music

It was a quiet week in Britain for veteran artists, at least from a new release standpoint, but three continue to hold their spots in the top ten.

Last week's number 1, Radiohead's A Moon Shaped Pool, falls to number 4 while The Very Best of Prince only slides one spot from 6 to 7.

Also in the top ten for the third week is Billy Ocean's Here You Are: The Very Best of Billy Ocean, dropping this week from 7 to 9. In the U.S., a major album from Ocean seems like an oddity; however, the Trinidad and Tobago born singer had a much more solid career in the U.K. His first major hit, 1976's Love Really Hurts Without You, went to number 2 in Britain while only 22 in the U.S. He followed with three more top ten hits during the 70's at a time when he didn't chart in America.

From 1980 on, he charted eighteen times on the British charts versus only eleven times in the U.S. Ocean did score three number ones during that time in America (Caribbean Queen (No More Love On the Run), There'll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry), Get Outta My Dreams Get Into My Car) while he only had one in the U.K. (When the Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going).

The album chart shows a similar U.K. dominance with ten top 100 albums versus only four in the states.

The only debut from a veteran artist is Mark Pritchard's Under the Sun at 87.
