Vintage Video: David Bowie Opens His "Ziggy Stardust" Tour (1972)

On this night 44 years ago (February 10, 1972), David Bowie opened his Ziggy Stardust tour at the Tolworth Toby Jug Pub in London.

The tour started small, very small, moving two nights later to Imperial College in London in the first of what would be many university shows.

Bowie had performed the new show once before in a warmup audience at the Borough Assembly Hall in Aylesbury on January 29 and was scheduled to play the Lancaster Arts Festival in Coventry on February 3 but the show was cancelled. That made the Pub show the official opening of the tour.

In total, Bowie would play over 150 dates, and even more shows with occasional days including two shows, spanning almost 1-1/2 years with the final shows being played at London's Hammersmith Odeon on July 2 and 3, 1973.
