David Bowie's "Blackstar" Once Again Top Selling Album by a Veteran Artist in the U.S.

It was a down week for veteran artists in the U.S. as can be seen by David Bowie's return to the top spot on our Top 40 list with the album Blackstar.

Not that Bowie being on top is a bad thing but the fact that the biggest selling album by a veteran artist can only make it to 22 on the Billboard Top 200 means that there was nothing big newly released.

The highest charting debut by a veteran artist goes to Vince Gill whose Down to My Last Bad Habit starts at 35. That's the lowest one of his albums has been since 2000's Let's Make Sure We Kiss Goodbye peaked at 39. Since then he has had Next Big Thing (2003 / #14), These Days (2006 / #17), Guitar Slinger (2011 / #14) and Bakersfield (2013 / #25).

The album also debuts at number 4 on the Country Albums, the exact same position as his previous five studio albums.

At 124 is another compilation, 21 Classic Rock Favorites while, at 162, is the debut of Wynonna & the Big Noise the new group fronted by Wynonna Judd. That is a HUGE blow to Wynonna's numbers as she has never had a studio album peak lower than number 40 on the Top 200. It also debuts at 14 on the Country Albums, her first to not make the top ten.

Last week's top veteran album, Elton John's Wonderful Crazy Night, took a big drop from 8 to 67. While Lucinda Williams' The Ghosts of Highway 20 fell 36 to 87.
