  • 1954 - A bill was introduced in the U.S. House of Representative by Ruth Thompson (MI) to outlaw the mailing or transportation of any "obscene, lewd, lascivious or filthy disc – or any other article capable of producing sound". This was seen as a way of blocking the distribution of R&B records. 
  • 1955 - According to Billboard, 45s were outselling 78's for the first time in history.
  • 1955 - Laverne Baker sought help from congress to get copyright protection of original recordings so that white artists could not cover black records note-for-note.
  • 1975 - The Night That Made America Famous, a revue using the music of Harry Chapin, opened on Broadway.
  • 1980 - U2 was offered a contract with Island Records after executives saw them in Dublin.
  • 1990 - Frank Farian, producer for Milli Vanilli, formally announced that the duo did not sing on their album. 
  • 1994 - The Desert Rose Band played their final show.
  • 1995 - Robert Plant and Jimmy Page opened their No Quarter World Tour in Pensacola, FL.
  • 1996 - Quincy Jones was named MusiCares Person of the Year. 
  • 1998 - Tommy Lee of Motley Crue was formally charged with abusing his wife, Pamela Anderson.
  • 2001 - The Darkness made their live debut in Camden, UK. 
  • 2001 - A woman who was accused of stalking Axl Rose was arrested after visiting Rose's home, violating her probation.
  • 2005 - The wife of Status Quo's Rick Parfitt attempted suicide after a British paper ran a story saying the guitarist was cheating. 
  • 2014 - Tim Lambesis of As I Lay Dying plead guilty to trying to hire an undercover agent to kill his estranged wife.
