Vintage Video: Paul McCartney Takes the Unplugged Concept Seriously

On this date in 1991 (January 25), Paul McCartney and his band took the stage to record an edition of MTV Unplugged.

Unlike many artists who appeared on the show, McCartney took the name seriously. Most would play acoustic instruments plugged into an amplifier. Paul and the band, on the other hand, used microphones carefully placed in front of all their instruments to pick up the natural acoustic sound.

The recording of the program, Unplugged (The Official Bootleg), was the first in what became a long series of releases from artists as they performed on the show.

Here are two performances from the show.
