Vintage Video: Don Gibson Performs "Oh Lonesome Me"

On this date in 1957, Don Gibson went into the studio to record a classic of country music.

Gibson first hit the country charts in 1956 with the original version of Sweet Dreams which he wrote. Oh Lonesome Me, which he also composed, was his second single for RCA and one of two singles that he took to the top of the country charts (Blue Blue Day was the other which came out later in 1958).

Non only was Oh Lonesome Me a number 1 country single but it also reached number 7 on the Billboard pop singles, Gibson's only top ten pop hit.

The B-side of the single was another Gibson composition, I Can't Stop Loving You, which went on to be a major hit for Ray Charles.
