Vintage Video: Diana Ross & the Supremes and the Temptations Come Together on "TCB"

47 years ago tonight, Diana Ross and the Supremes and the Temptations came together for the NBC special TCB.

The special, which originally aired on December 9, 1968, was a bit of a gamble for the network. It was the first time that rock or soul acts had been given an hour of prime time TV (not counting shows like Hullabaloo) and the special preempted the very popular Rowan and Martin's Laugh In. Nonetheless, it was a huge hit, becoming the top rated variety special of the season.

The soundtrack album, which was actually released a week earlier, was also a big hit, making it to number 1 on the Billboard 200.

The two acts sang separately and combined on both their hits and a number of other songs including one of Motown's favorite excursions, into the world of Broadway.

Here is footage from the show that has been synced with the soundtrack album for better sound with over a half-hour of highlights from the show.
