R. Kelly Debuts at 16, First to Not Make Top Ten; Sinatra Puts Three in the Top 100

R. Kelly's The Buffet debuts this week at number 16 and breaks a career long, 12-album streak of top ten debuts.

Kelly released his first album, 12 Play, in 1993 where it debuted at number 2. His first eight all went to either 1 or 2 before 2009's Untitled peaked at 4. Previous to The Buffet, his lowest charting album had been Love Letter (2010 / #6). So far, the singer has released two singles from the album, Backyard Party, which went to number 27 on the R&B singles, and Switch Up (Featuring Lil Wayne and Jeremiah) which did not chart.

It is definitely a time for holiday albums and popular albums from the previous year to hold their places fairly tightly. Chris Tomlin's Adore: Christmas Songs of Worshop falls behind R. Kelly, dropping to number 30, after two weeks as the top selling album by a veteran artist.

Frank Sinatra has been reaping the extra publicity from the 100th anniversary of his birth earlier this month, placing three albums in the top 100 (Ultimate Sinatra at 35, Icon: Christmas at 65 and Christmas Songs By Sinatra at 99.

Elvis Presley is also doing well with five in the top 200, It's Christmas Time at 54, The Classic Christmas Album at 109, Elvis: Ultimate Christmas at 110, If I Can Dream at 163 and Merry Christmas...Love, Elvis at 190

Latin superstar Juan Gabriel opens at 114 with Los Duo 2. This is Gabriel's seventh album to make the Billboard 200 but the last one, Los Duo, peaked at 25 while 2006's La Historia Del Divo peaked at 92.

The last debut by a veteran artist goes to Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings whose It's a Holiday Soul Party premiers at 185.
