In 2006, Pat Boone release We Are Family: R&B Classics, an album that included duets with such classic soul artists as James Brown, Sam Moore, Smokey Robinson, the Four Tops and Earth, Wind and Fire. At the time of the release, it went to 86 but has been largely unavailable in recent years.
This past Friday, Boone and Cleopatra Records reissued the set as R&B Duets with a new cover that is a throwback to the albums of the 50's and 60's.
Of course, Boone became one of the biggest singers in the country during the late-50's and early-60's by covering some of the great R&B classics of the day and presenting them in what was considered a "less threatening" form for white audiences. He took Fats Domino's Ain't That a Shame to number 1, Little Richard's Long Tall Sally to number 8 and the El Dorados At My Front Door to 7.
Here, though, he gets to perform newer R&B classics in duets with their original artists, taking on such classics as Papa's Got a Brand New Bag, Soul Man, I Can't Help Myself and We Are Family.
Boone said ""This classic, ultimate party record fulfills a career long desire to record with many of my most favorite artists, bringing me back full circle to my first R&B million sellers."
Pat Boone is one of music's best-selling artists and has sold over 45 million albums, had 38 Top 40 hits, and appeared in more than 12 Hollywood films. He still holds the Billboard record for charting consecutive weeks by spending 220 consecutive weeks on the charts with one or more song each week. He has hosted his own TV show and has written a number of books including 2 million - plus sellers that have been translated into many languages. Currently, he continues to perform for an audience of millions on both TV and radio, has just completed 2 films and is still recording.
