Listen: The Brian Setzer Orchestra Takes on the Flintstones Theme on "Bedrock Boogie"

The Brian Setzer Orchestra and the Warner Music Group have released the song Bedrock Boogie, a big band/rockabilly take on the theme from The Flintstones.

At this point, the single appears to be a one-off as it is not associated with the group's upcoming Rockin' Rudolph, another in their line of Christmas themed albums, although there is a cut on that set called Yabba-Dabba Yuletide.

This version is a straight instrumental but, of course, the original had lyrics as heard on the the original Flintstones series which was on ABC from 1960 to 1966 and, up until The Simpsons, was the longest running prime-time cartoon in TV history.

Meet the Flintstones was not actually the theme during the first two seasons. That was an instrumental called Rise and Shine but the now familiar song became the regular opening and closing song with season 3, episode 3 and was retroactively added to the previous shows for syndication.

By the way, Meet the Flintstones was actually based on Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 17, Movement 2.
