Set List: Prince Plays Nearly Four Hour Surprise Show

The Hollywood Palladium was only about half full on Saturday night when Prince took the stage in the second of two surprise shows at the venue, but that didn't phase the artist as he put on one of the longest shows of his career.

The first show was the bigger surprise as the Palladium already had a show by Liv Warfield set for Friday evening but various sources started tweeting throughout Friday that something bigger was happening. Warfield ended up playing until 11:30 PM followed, at 12:15 AM on Saturday morning, by Prince who did a short seven song set.

The fact that there would be a second show on Saturday night was announced by Prince during the Friday night event and, without any real promotion, only about 1,600 tickets were sold at $100 each while the venue has a capacity of about 3,700. Still, those that attended received a truly epic show.

The evening started with a DJ set that ran from 8:00 until Prince hit the stage at 10:20. 55 songs (some in shortened versions & not including snippets placed in the middle of songs), five encores and 3 hours and 40 minutes later, the show was finally over.

Included in the set were six of the nine songs from the soundtrack of Purple Rain along with six of the sixteen tracks from the double album Sign O' the Times. Along with tracks from his own album, Prince touched on four songs from the repertoire of The Time, two each from Sheila E. and The Family, covers and unreleased material.

The following is a tentative set list as published at princevault.com.  We will update as more information becomes available.

I was there last night. Appreciate the post, but given that you knew it was 3 hours and 40 minutes (3 hours and 38 minutes by my watch, but who's to niggle over it), why does your headline say "Four Hour Set"??

P.S. The DJ set was by Doug E. Fresh and it started after 8 sometime (I came in at 8:15 and he hadn't started yet).

He also played a cover of Michael Jackson's "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough"!

It's "faze," not "phase."
