Steve Perry Confirms He Has Not Returned to Journey

Even though he was the one who started the speculation, Steve Perry has decided to make it clear that he has not returned to his former band Journey.

Earlier this month, Perry fueled the rumor mill when he told Artisan News "We're trying ... The older I get, the more I do realize how important what we had all together and how it worked."

The idea of a reunion was problematic as Journey has stated on many occassions how happy they were with Amel Pineda, the Phillipines-born singer that they had found in a YouTube video of Amel's Journey cover band.

Shortly after the Perry comment hit the media, Australian site MelodicRock.com published a statement from the band saying "No reunion plans...all is well in the Journey camp"

On Monday, Steve Perry confirmed that nothing was in the works:

I'd like to make clear that the rumor that I have returned to the band Journey is totally untrue and only a rumor.

Sincerely,
Steve Perry
Of course, the statement only confirms that he hasn't "returned" to the band. It doesn't totally deny that there were, at least at one time, discussions between Perry and the principles.

So disappointing! There are so many Journey fans out here waiting for your return. What a talent and beautiful voice you have! Please share it with the rest of us. Brings back so many memories. Please come back with new music even if it has to be without the band! You still have so many fans!

No Steve Perry - No Journey - Period - without Steve Perry they are a tributary band - it's like seeing an Elvis impersonator instead of Elvis

Steve Perry made Journey. Steve Perry is the voice. Steve Perry needs to continue to forget Journey and just put out is songs. I love Steve Perry, I do not follow or listen to the Journey of today. I do continue to buy Steve Perry stuff. Please record and release. We miss you, not Journey.

They should be begging Perry to come back but instead they'd rather go their "Separate Ways." Steve Perry is what everyone thinks of whenever Journey is heard, mentioned, or sang... Journey without Steve Perry is just another tribute band period.

Steve Perry is Journey. Absolute no disrespect to Rollie, Neil, Jonathan, and to all the others. No one could honestly dispute the success Journey had with Steve as the front man. His voice is like no other. Many have tried to imitate, but have failed completely. Without Steve Perry, Journey is nothing more then a below average band trying to recapture their past. Wont happen with out Steve. Forever a fan of Steve's - Mary M.

Without Steve Perry it's all Karaoke. What the band found was the closest imitator. It's not Journey without Perry's vocals.

There is only ONE VOICE for JOURNEY. mister Steve Perry.. We love you. We always have the older stuff that will NEVER DIE. I listen to it all the time.

No, Steve Perry did not inspire the rumor! He was asked if he and Neal have talked to each other. His response was that "we're trying..." As in trying to communicate! Then he went on to talk about his observations of how special the experience of being in that band was. Watching the media try to make something out of nothing has been an eye opener for me! I feel bad for Steve that he had to make a public statement. What silliness!

Good it's clarified, agree w/Amy - all misconstrued nonsense to generate media madness. Well said about any of the replacements being like seeing an Elvis impersonator, spot-on! Steve, just keep doing your own thing. Hope you give us another album, sing some of your own from today and yesterday, we will buy - absolutely. Put a share of proceeds toward City of Hope if you can. Or toward helping unknown musicians (unknown, not just 'young') and/or songwriters. Anyway you want it (LOL!) Steve, that's the way WE need it! Love you, kind Sir;/EB

I am brazilian and since was a 14 years old (almost 30 years ago) I love to listen Journey and Steve Perry´s voice really makes a total difference!
Do wish to see you here one day and who knows... all playing together again!

Perry was Journey, but age has affected his voice. If Arniel wouldn't have come along then Journey would just be another wonderful, no-longer-rocking band. Instead of being resentful, I'm grateful we still get them coming around after all these years.
