Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell Take Album and Duo/Group at Americana Music Awards; Dwight Yoakam Top Artist

Duos were the big winners at the 2013 Americana Music Awards and Honors on Wednesday night in Nashville.

Friends and occasional duo Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell took home Album of the Year for Old Yellow Moon and duo/group of the year. The husband-wife group Shovels and Rope, made up of Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent, won Song of the Year for Birmingham and Emerging Artist.

Artist of the Year went to Dwight Yoakam while the final of the six voted awards, Instrumentalist, went to multi-instrumentalist Larry Campbell.

Four other awards were also presented to seven artists during the evening:

  • Trailblazer - Old Crow Medicine Show
  • President's Award - Hank Williams
  • Spirit of America/Free Speech in Music Award - Stephen Stills
  • Lifetime Achievement Awards
    • Duane Eddy
    • Dr. John
    • Robert Hunter
    • Chris Strachwitz (founder of Arhoolie Records)
