ASCAP to Present George Strait With Their Founders Award

George Strait will be honored by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) with their Founders Award on November 4 at the 51st annual Country Music Awards.

The Founders Award goes to "songwriters and composers who have made pioneering contributions to music by inspiring and influencing their fellow music creators. Each recipient is a musical innovator who possesses a unique style of creative genius that will enrich generations to come."

Paul Williams, President and Chairman of ASCAP, said "George Strait is a living legend whose revitalization of classic country music defined a generation of country singers and continues to inspire songwriters today. He has topped the charts more often than any other artist in history, captivating millions while remaining true to his style and love of tradition. ‘King’ George is a genuine musical pioneer whose influence on country music is immeasurable, and we are honored to recognize his extraordinary career with the ASCAP Founders Award."

Strait has sold 68.5 million albums in the U.S., twelfth on the all-time list wedged between AC/DC and Aerosmith. His 81 nominations are the most ever at the CMA Awards.
