D.J. Fontana, T.G. Sheppard and Norbert Putnam to Appear During Memphis' Elvis Week

Elvis Week is once again coming to Memphis from August 10 to 17. Elvis Presley Enterprises is in charge of the festivities with most events happening at Graceland.

Major events during the week include the August 13 Elvis at Stax listening party where the new Presley compilation will be premiered. Sony representatives and session bassist Norbert Putnam will be on hand to tell stories about the sessions and answer fan's questions.

The next afternoon, Conversations on Elvis will feature a number of Presley's friends and colleagues including Putnam, Rev. Mother Dolores Hart who appeared in the films Loving You and King Creole before entering the church and singer T.G. Sheppard who started promoting records for Elvis before becoming a country star.

August 15 includes the Elvis Gospel Celebration with Terry Mike Jeffrey, Andy Childs and former members of J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet – Bill Baize, Donnie Sumner, Ed Hill and Larry Strickland.

Friday, August 16 will see the showing of the 40th anniversary version of Aloha From Hawaii which has been remastered in hi-definition and includes rarely seen footage and stage performances.

The week closes with the Official Elvis Insiders Event. Special guests appearances to include country music legend Ronnie Milsap, who did session work with Elvis, including playing piano and singing on “Kentucky Rain”; Elvis’ original drummer DJ Fontana, who will be sharing memories about the filming of the “’68 Special,” which celebrates its 45th anniversary this year; and former members of J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet – Bill Baize and Donnie Sumner who will talk about Elvis’ “Aloha from Hawaii” concert.

Finally, an Elvis Celebration Concert will also be held on the 17th at the Elvis Week Main Stage featuring Terry Mike Jeffrey and Band along with DJ Fontana and Elvis’ background vocalist Millie Kirkham.

Throughout the week, there will also be the seventh annual Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest including 29 competitors from around the world.
