On Wednesday night, Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear played a little "jam" that they wrote called Cut Me Some Slack at the 121212 concert. That "new" song was actually recorded for the soundtrack of Grohl's upcoming documentary Sound City.

Dave Grohl has put together an incredible line-up of collaborations for the soundtrack with Rick Springfield with Foo Fighters Grohl, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear and Taylor Hawkins on the track The Man That Never Was.

Sound City also features Grohl with Rage Against The Machine members Brad Wilk and Tim Commerford, Grohl with Slipknot’s Cory Taylor and Cheap Trick’s Rick Neilsen, Dave Grohl and Stevie Nicks and Grohl with Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age and Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails.

Sound City: Real To Reel is Dave Grohl’s documentary about the Sound City studio. All of his famous guests on the soundtrack have recorded at the studio.

Grohl’s Sound City movie will premiere at Sundance Film Festival in January with the soundtrack's release set for March 12.

Dave Grohl has already been announced as a keynote speaker at SXSW in Austin in March. This line-up sure sounds like a possible SXSW showcase!

I don't see where anyone has done anything in the name of Nirvana?! There is 1 song on the album with the surviving members of nirvana and sir paul, but that was the song they did for the Sandy Relief concert. Just because members of an old band get together does not mean they (or ANYONE besides courtney love)are profiting off of nirvana's "glory". Dave Grohl is so far removed and has so surpassed nirvana at this point that he is seen more as a foo fighter, not as a member of nirvana. So, where in this entire album is nirvana mentioned or any song that even remotely sounds like nirvana. I can even bet that Nirvana is not even mentioned on the website or packaging except to note which members of the project were once in Nirvana (which everyone in the project would do with his or her other respective bands). So, chill and enjoy the music!
