Short Takes: Neil Young, Depeche Mode, Dennis Wilson, Brian Johnson, Beatles
Neil Young is working on a new device that he says will revolutionize music downloads. The rocker says the new machine will download versions of music that does not sacrifice any of the quality as happens with most digital services now. The bad part is that it will take about an hour to obtain each song on a high-speed line.
Young said in an interview at the AllThingsD's Dive Into Media Conference that he was taking up the work that he felt Steve Jobs would eventually have done. "Steve Jobs was a pioneer of digital music, but when he went home he listened to vinyl. I have to believe if he lived long enough he would have tried to do what I'm trying to do."
Martin Gore has said that the next Depeche Mode album should be out "no later than early 2013." The group enters the studio in March. The album will be their first since 2009's Sounds of the Universe and their thirteenth overall.
More casting has been announced for the movie The Drummer, the story of the last six years of Dennis Wilson's life. The Beach Boys drummer is going to be played by Aaron Eckhart while Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac, with whom Wilson had a lengthy relationship after her divorce from John McVie, will be played by Vera Farmiga.
Farmiga, who plays piano, is expected to do her own singing in the film, including a possible performance of the Mac hit Hold Me which is reportedly about Wilson.
The team that included Brian Johnson of AC/DC finished 32nd at the Rolex 24 at the Daytona International Speedway. A total of five team members ran their BMW Riley car a total of 672 laps over the 24 hour period.
A guitar solo has been unearthed that was originally intended for the Beatles' Here Comes the Sun. The George Harrison solo was found by Dhani Harrison, George Martin and Giles Martin in the archives at Abbey Road Studios.

The here comes the sun guitar solo is awesome! That's a great video all around. Although I think maybe the made the right choice in leaving it out. It's awesome, but I am not sure the song needed a guitar solo...
