Rock Hall Opening Archive and Library to Scholars and Fans

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced the opening of their Library and Archives. Located on the campus of the Cuyahoga Community College's Metropolitan Campus at 2809 Woodland Avenue in Cleveland. The new facility will be open to the public for research beginning today although it won't be officially dedicated until Monday, April 9.

The Hall calls the repository the most comprehensive in the world relating to the history of rock and roll. "Our mission is to collect, preserve, and provide access to these resources for scholars, educators, students, journalists, and the general public in order to broaden awareness and understanding of rock and roll, its roots, and its impact on our society."

Included are more than 3,500 books, 1,400 audio recordings and 270 videos along with posters, magazines, photos and other memorabilia. According to sources, their are thousands of more items to be cataloged into their system and they are always open to new donations. Holdings are not available for borrowing, but there are reading and listening rooms for research.

Archival collections are also housed at the facility and can be accessed through special permission for research purposes. The collections include historical materials from Sire Records, Eddie Cochran, Alan Freed, Jerry Wexler, Atlantic Records, Four Tops, Specialty Records, Scotty Moore and, literally, hundreds of additional sources.
