Bobby Womack to Tour U.K. & Ireland with the Gorillaz

Poet I & IIRock and Roll Hall of Famer Bobby Womack is set to join the Gorillaz' U.K. and Ireland tour from November 11 to 18.  Womack sang on the first single from the group's latest album, Escape to Plastic Beach.

Demon DaysThe Gorillaz were originally formed as a "virtual" hip-hop group that were represented by the cartoons and visuals of Jamie Hewlett.  Their first album and its successful single Clint Eastwood were the combined efforts of Dan "The Automator" Nakamura, Damon Albarn (Blur), Miho Hatori (Cibo Matto), and Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz (both Tom Tom Club).  Over a decade and two more albums, the contributing musicians have changed with Albarn and Hewlett being the common factors.

Albarn has done his best to include many of his collaborators on this tour, including Womack, Mark E. Smith (the Fall), De La Soul, the Hypnotic Brass, Kano, Bashy, Little Dragon and more.

The dates for the U.K. leg of the Escape the Plastic Beach tour:

  • 11/11 - Dublin - O2 Arena
  • 11/12 - Manchester - Manchester Arena
  • 11/14 - London - O2 Arena
  • 11/15 - London - O2 Arena
  • 11/17 - Birmingham - NIA
  • 11/18 - Brighton - Brighton Centre
