Chart Watch America: Chart of August 14, 2010
Our weekly recap of veteran artists on the current American music charts. Chart highlights
- Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers take back the top selling album by a veteran artist for the first time since July 3 with Mojo. It's their second non-consecutive week at the top.
- Tom Jones' new album, Praise and Blame, starts at number 79 which may not seem that high, but its the best he has done since 1977's Say You'll Stay Until Tomorrow which peaked at 76.
- The Legacy Edition of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble's Couldn't Stand the Weather premiers at 174. The original version of the album topped off at 31 in 1984.
- Two albums jump back onto the charts. Prince and Bria Valente's Lotus Flow3r/MPLSoUND/Elix3r returns at 89 on the Album and 19 on the R&B Album chart, where it takes over top album by a veteran artist from Sade. Cyndi Lauper's Memphis Blues comes back at 154. It remains the top Blues Album for the sixth week.
- Speaking of the Blues Album chart, veteran artists hold six of the top seven spots including the new album from the Robert Cray Band, Cookin' in Mobile, which debuts at 5.
