BBC2 Counts Down the Biggest Selling Records in British History

On Monday, a Bank Holiday in Britain, BBC 2 host Tony Blackburn played back the 100 biggest selling singles ever in the U.K.  In the case of this survey, prepared by the Official Chart Company, "ever" is November 1952 to August 7, 2010. 

Topping the list was Elton John's rerecorded version of Candle in the Wind, released after his performance at the funeral of Princess Diana.  It is generally regarded as the biggest selling single in history worldwide.  Second was Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas and third was Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody.
