Joey Ramone to Finally Be Inducted Into the Rock Hall, Birthday Bash Set

The Ramones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002; however, the award for Joey Ramone, who passed away a year earlier, was left out of the program.

That award will be officially presented this Thursday at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Annex in New York City. Ramone's official website has the details:

At the Ramones' induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2002, the award presentation and acceptance for Ramones lead singer JOEY RAMONE was mistakenly omitted from the program's schedule. As a result, the statue meant for JOEY ended up being abandoned at the podium.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Estate of JOEY RAMONE are pleased to announce that on May 14th, 2009 at 3:00, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will re-present the induction award for JOEY RAMONE.

The Induction Award will be presented by Danny Fields - the Ramones' first manager and a noted journalist - and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame President Joel Peresman; the award will be accepted by JOEY's brother, musician and author Mickey Leigh, and Tommy Ramone, a founding member of the band, their first drummer and sole surviving original member of the Ramones.
Also coming up on May 19 is the Joey Ramone Birthday Bash 2009. This annual tradition started in April 2001, one month after Ramone's death on what would have been his 50th birthday. Joey's mother, Charlotte Lesher, and brother, Mickey Leigh, have organized each year's celebration with money going to the Lymphoma Research Foundation.

This year's lineup includes Richie Ramone, Mickey Leigh, Fishbone, Supersuckers, Uncle Monk featuring Tommy Ramone & Claudia Tienan, Bebe Buell and Tom Clark & the High Action Boys.
