Springsteen Offers Free Downloads, Clapton & Beck to Perform Together, more

Bruce Springsteen is offering fans free downloads on Amazon.com and for Guitar Hero: World Tour as he gets ready for the release of a new Greatest Hits album (through Wal-Mart) and Working on a Dream.

As of Monday, Life Itself was put up as a free download on Amazon. The songs My Lucky Day and Born to Run will be available for the video game for free starting on the new album's release date through February 4.

Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck will play together at Super Arena in Saitama, Japan on February 21 and 22. Beck was Clapton's replacement in the Yardbirds after he left over creative differences.

Lars Ulrich of Metallica has expressed interest in joning Deep Purple as their drummer should they embark on a reunion world tour. The group (David Coverdale, Glenn Hughes, Joh Lord) has implied that drummer Ian Paice would not be part of any reunion.

A group of Norwegian journalists are making their 2001 audio documentary Var daglige Beatles (Our Daily Beatles) available on-line as podcasts, marking the first time that the group's catalog has been available for download from a non-pier-to-pier site. The journalists play their favorite songs from the Fab Four and then talk about them. It will be interesting to see if the podcasts stay online unchallenged.

The Pretty Things, who had planned a tour to commemorate their 41st anniversary, have canceled sighting "scheduling difficulties."

This March, many PBS stations across the country will be showing Sweet Soul Music: Stax Live in Europe 1967, with performances from label artists Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Booker T. & the MGs, Eddie Floyd and Arthur Conley. This is a shortened version of the DVD Stax/Volt Revue: Live in Norway 1967.

The one-off return of the BBC's Top of the Pops on Christmas Day was a ratings smash. The program, which aired weekly from 1964 to 2006, was shown at 2 PM in the afternoon to an audience of 3.7 million or 30.6% of the television audience.
