Smokey Robinsion Receives Award of Excellence

Smokey Robinson received the United Negro College Fund's Award of Excellence last night during the taping of the annual Evening of Stars concert.

Group president and CEO, Michael L. Lomax, said, "The award honors Smokey not only for his five-decade career as a creative artist, but also for the contribution he has made to helping students get the college education they need and deserve."

Scheduled to appear at the show were Yolanda Adams, Anita Baker, Macy Gray, Heather Headley, Chris Isaak, John Legend, Kenny Lattimore, Chante Moore, Ne-Yo, Joss Stone, Nancy Wilson and Stevie Wonder. Taped messages for Robinson were made by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin and Martha Reeves.

The show will be broadcast in syndication this January.
